Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming education, employment, and everyday life. The next generation of students must be AI literate and have the technical intuition and technological skills required to participate fully in the workforce of the future. Integrating AI Literacy into Community College Programs (AI in CC) addresses this urgent need. In collaboration with five colleges across the nation, our team is working to increase the AI literacy and skills of students in community and technical colleges.
About
The AI in Community Colleges (AI in CC) initiative empowers community college students with the skills to understand, navigate, and contribute to the evolving world of artificial intelligence.
Through collaboration with leading institutions and support from the NSF, this project aims to embed AI literacy into general education pathways and workforce programs to reach a broad, diverse population of learners.
Curriculum
AI in CC supports the integration of AI-focused curriculum into existing community college courses and programs. These materials are designed for both standalone courses and embedded modules, equipping faculty to teach concepts that range from ethical use of AI to data analysis and machine learning.
This curriculum introduces students to core AI concepts, including how AI works, where it appears in daily life, and its ethical implications. Materials are designed for general education audiences and can be adapted for a range of disciplines...
Coming in 2026 More advanced curriculum supports deeper into AI applications, programming, and data analysis. These resources will help students build the technical and analytical skills needed for today’s workforce.
Research
The AI in CC project also includes a research component focused on understanding how AI literacy can be effectively taught in community colleges. We are gathering data on student learning, faculty implementation, and institutional support to inform best practices for broader adoption.
